Morgan Kate: CARDIO - How Much Is Enough?
It's no secret that many of us turn to cardio to burn calories and burn unwanted fat. It's true that cardio can do this for our bodies, it also can help build a strong cardiovascular system. However, too much cardio and at the wrong intensity can actually slow down the metabolism and break down our pressure muscle fibres.
So how much is enough?
I believe in a combination of resistance training and cardio to produce the best results of a lean physique. The balance maintains muscles, building muscle actually helps with metabolic health by increasing the our metabolism and the rate in which we digest food. With that being said, we can't forget the benefits of cardio and it's role in fitness. Therefore, I suggest this. Your routine should be developed at about a 90/10 ratio. 90% resistance training/weights and 10% cardio. I know the cardio doesn't seem like a lot but you can easily get the bang for your buck if do this by conducting super-sets/ circuits and short burst of high intensity cardio. It's like packing a punch to get the most results and it does beat spending 30 minutes to an hour post workout on cardio alone. Time is a hard thing to come by and spending 1-2 hours at the gym 4-5x a week, is not sustainable for many of our lifestyles. A workout of 30-40 minutes of a combined resistance/cardio workout is more than enough to produce results. You can get lean, build muscle and get crazy strong. All you need is the right effort, the right consistency and balanced nutrition and it doesn't have to take up a whole day! It can be just a part of your routine that makes the rest of your day a little bit easier to manage.
